<br />OHIO <br /> <br />Ohio's 8cenic Rivers Act was passed by the state leqislature in 1~68. ~he <br />act originally provided only for scenic classification of rivers, but was <br />amended'in 1972 to include a wild class as well. <br /> <br />Administration of the system is the respon~ibility of the Director of tbe <br />Department of Natural Pesources. He prepares and maintains river management <br />plans as pert of the state cOl11prehensice plans for water management and ol1td<X'r <br />recreation. <br /> <br />Designated river segments must be at least ten feet wice apo five miles <br />lona, Area to he included mav not exceed one thousanrl feet from the normal <br />waterline of the river unless'the Director c1eterIl'ines that adelitional width is <br />necessary to preserve water <X'nservation, scenic, fish, wildlife, historic, or <br />outdoor recreation values. (Ohio Revised Code, Section 1501.16) <br /> <br />Designation is by administrative action of the Director of the Department <br />of Natural Resources. <br /> <br />The act also requires approval by the ~irector of public construction <br />projects in desiqnated areas.
