l;
."

.,

.

.

- 2 -

decrees from Mcqueary, Jones, Bobtail and Steelman Creeks and tributaries with

a limt at any one time of 214 cubic feet per second, dated July 4, 1921, with
a conditional decree of the same date to expand to a total of 620 cubic feet

per second.

A concrete arch dam about 70 feet high was constructed on the Williams

Fork, in Which storage began in April 1939. The capacity of the reservoir was

5,120 acre feet until it was increased in 1942 to about 7,000 acre feet by the

addition of radial gates at the spillway. There is an absolute decree for

6,623 acre feet, under date of November 10, 1935, with a conditional decree of

the sarne date to expand to 93,637 acre feet.

The Jones Pass t1:nnel has diverted an average of 6,400 acre feet since

diversion started, and the reservoir has been used to replace diversions by

both the Hoffat and the Jones Pass tunnels.

Recently, an amended filing on the Williams Fork Reservoir was ac-

cepted in the State Engineer's office under date of February 27, 1956. In

this filing it is stated that the reservoir shown therein is exactly the same
as the reservoir shown on the filing No. 16051 mentioned above, but that state-

ments in the amended filing ,Till show a different estimated cost and additional

purposes for which the structure "rill be used. An addition to the claim set

out in the original filing was <f -'f " "for the further purpose of filling

and refilling said reservoir throughout the year". ,lith regard to the use of

the reservoir, the statement in the amended filing did not connect the stream

regulation to just the ,Iilliams Fork and the Jones Pass tunnel, but extended the

connection to "transmountain tunnels or ditches constructed or to be constructed

through or over the Continental Divide, betHeen the .'latGrshed of the Colorado

River and the watershed of the South Platte River, and in connection l,uth re-

0754
