<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />PROPOSED BLACK CANYON NATIONAL PARK AND <br />SCENIC RECREATION AREA <br /> <br />Proposed Gunnison Gor~e National Recreation Area <br /> <br />Congressman Strang proposes to designate the present <br />Gunnison Gorge Recreation Lands as a National Recreation Area and <br />a unit of the Proposed Black Canyon National Park and Scenic <br />Recreation Area. <br /> <br />The Gunnison Gorge Recreation Lands were designated by <br />the Bureau of Land Management in 1972. The Recreation Management <br />Plan was issued earlier this year. Subsequent to extensive <br />public involvement in its development, the management plan offers <br />a unique variety of motorized and non-motorized recreational <br />opportunities surrounding a core area around the Lower Gunnison <br />River. The management plan would manage the core area as <br />essentially primitive in nature.
