<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />PROPOSED BLACK CANYON NATIONAL PARK AND <br />SCENIC RECREATION AREA <br /> <br />Proposed Black Canyon National Park <br /> <br />Congressman Strang proposes to change the existing <br />administratively designated Black Canyon National Monument to a <br />legislatively designated Black Canyon National Park, as a unit of <br />the Proposed Black Canyon National Park and Scenic Recreation <br />Area. <br /> <br />The Monument was established by proclamation of <br />President Hoover in 1933. There were three subsequent <br />Presidential proclamations in 1938, 1939 and 1960 affecting the <br />monument lands. Monument land adjustments were also made by <br />legislation in 1958. In 1976, Congress designated 11,180 acres <br />of the lower canyon within the monument as a wilderness area. <br />Legislation in 1984 set the present monument boundaries which <br />encompass 20,763 acres. <br /> <br />****** <br /> <br />~ <br />~v <br />~ <br />
