001360

(d) In the region of the following-named cities and
towns: Grand Canyon area north of Peach Springs.

7. Lands of the United States whioh will be affeoted are located in

Speoial Reservation along the Colorado River,
Hualpai Indian Reservation and a small part of
the Publio Domain.

8. The proposod soheme of development for the projeot is as follows:

The dam-site is about 10-1/2 miles below the mouth
of Di~ond Crook a short distance below Gniess Canyon.
The oross-section of the d~-site is narrow. the
width of' tho rivor being only 150'. A d~ to raise
the _tel' 570' would have a orest length of 870'. The
dam would be construotod of either conorete or of
Cyolopean masonry f~ the lime-stone oliffs nearby.
Spillways will be tunnels about lpO' long spilling
into the side-canyon an tho left, known as Spillway
Canyon. The dam so built would form 0. lake 78 miles
long with a surfaoe area of' approximately 8,500 aores
and would have a oapacity of approrlmately 2.500.000
aore feet. Sinoe there are no important improvoments
in this part of the oanyon tho damage would be negligible.

Estimated power available 90% of the time is 330.000 HP,
50% of the time is 500.000 HP. Installed oapaoity
800.000 HP with provision for the installation of an
additional 300.000 HP with upstream storage development
and regulation.

9. The proposed use or markat for the power to be developed is as
follows:

Power from the Bridge Canyon Projeot would be used
to develop the natural resources of northeastern
Arizona and southwestern Utah. These areas oonttlin
valuable mineral resources, whioh have bean un-
developed owing to the lack of' chetlp power. The
Santa Fe railroad comos within 20 miles of this
power site and would be a potential market for
power developed horo. Electre.fication of this
railroad from Holbrook to Kingman would be feasible
and ecancmical. owing to tho fact that heavy grades
exist in this portion of the road.

-2-
