,

000536

.'

Recent detailed foundation drilling at the previously
considered damsite disclosed that the glacial moraine materials

forming the site are more pervious than indicated by previous

investigations and that considerable costs would be involved in

preventing excessive leakage of water from the reservoir, Drilling

at the site proceeded to a maximum depth of 394 feet without reaching
bedrock.

~

Because of these factors, consideration was given to three

other downstream alternative sites for the reservoir. For purposes

of easier identification and reference, the original site is referred
to as the Moraine Axis, and the other sites a6 the Dallas Confluence,

Alkali Creek, and Cow Creek axes.

Before hydraulic pumping of water from Ridgway Reservoir
was eliminated from the plan, additional storage and higher pump
lifts would have been required at the lower sites because of the lower
elevations of the alternative reservoirs,

With elimination of the pumping requirements the lower sites

became relatively more attractive, Other advantages and disadvantages

of the four sites are listed as follows:

.

5
