00J537

Through comparison of costs, and considerations of other

factors including environmental effects, the Alkali Creek axis was

selected for Ridgway Dam, , The cost of the dam and reservoir was

, '

estimated to be lower for the Alkali Creek axis than for the Moraine

, ,
, ,
;

I .

and the Dsllas Confluence axes and about equal to the Cow Creek axis.

j i
: i

The principal objections to the Cow Creek axis, along with

i,1
,

, ,

inundation of additional ranch land, was the difficult and expensive

t.1

route for the relocation of U,5. Highway 550, The relocation would

include a tunnel and would make any future highway widening quite

expensive.

\ ~
, .

The required active capacity of Ridgway Reservoir is about

110,000 acre-feet. the same as in the feasibility report. The amount

of dead and inactive storage for the reservoir will be affected by

~ ,
;'
"I
':

analyses of recreation and fishing which are being made by other

I'
;,

agencies. These analyses have not yet been completed by the responsible

participating agencies. Preliminary cost estimates for the dam and

reservoir are based on an estimated total reservoir capacity of 125,000

acre-feet.

The previous feasibility design of Ridgway Dam and Reservoir

provided a minimum pool of 35,750 acre-feet, This pool was required

for power head for hydraulic pumping of irrigation water to Log Hill

Mesa. With elimination of pumping from the reservoir, only a very

small minimum pool is required for reservoir sedimentation considerations

.

under operation of the reservoir for irrigation and M & I use.

6
