acquire additional water rights to assure an adequate supply during

dry years. Additional storage facilities are needed and distribution

system improvements are needed in several areas.

CURRENT STATUS
In August 1976, the town of Limon submitted a request to the

eWCB for assistance in solving its water system problems. Subsequently,

the town obtained funding from the Four Corners Regional commission

for an engineering report on the water system problems. This report

was undertaken by the consulting engineering firm of Nelson, Haley,

Patterson and Quirk Inc., of Colorado Springs. Several alternatives

to include both interim and long-term solutions to the town's water

problems have been considered by the consultants.

PROPOSED PROJECT

The consultants have recommended that the first item to be con-

sidered on the project is to acquire the needed water rights. The

town is currently trying to negotiate this item. When this has been

accomplished the town will then award contracts for developing new well

fields, transmission lines, necessary treatment facilities and new

storage facilities. In the interim period the improvements to the

existing distribution system can be accomplished.

The total estimated cost of the project is $1,662,000 and it is

to be noted that no money is necessary for meters as the town is already

one hundred percent metered.

- 2 -

2433
