<br />lJu,)472 <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br />CONTRACT ACTIVITY <br /> <br />The general contractor has advised the states that work was initiated <br /> <br /> <br />immediately after notification of the award. One of the initial activities <br /> <br /> <br />was to identify data and information needs of the general contractor from the <br /> <br /> <br />six states. The project director and project manager plan to visit each of the <br /> <br />six states between November 2 and November 22 to discuss the following: <br /> <br />1) Relevant studies and data sources and the procedures to follow <br />in identifying and obtaining the material. <br />2) Development of the High Plains Study work plan to include the <br />probable schedule of funding from EDA. <br />3) Plans for conducting state level research work. <br />4) The overall High Plains Study design and procedures for coordinating <br />the general contractor's work with the various state water and <br />resource agencies. <br />5) Each state's questions and problems relating to or impacting the <br />High Plains Study. <br /> <br />The visits in the MRBC area are as follows: Colorado - November 13-14; <br /> <br />Nebraska _ November 15-16; Kansas - November 17-18. Some of the subcontractors <br /> <br />will be visiting states prior to the visits noted above. <br /> <br />WORK PLAN <br /> <br />The contractor plans to have a draft work plan available by December 15, '1978. <br /> <br />After approval of the work plan by the High Plains Council and the Economic Develop- <br />ment Administration, the detailed studies will begin. At this time the contractor <br />plans to provide an interim report to Congress on January 15, 1979. <br /> <br />FUNDING <br /> <br />The total federal allocation of six million dollars is now available for <br /> <br />the study. Individual state funding has not been resolved at this time. Each <br /> <br />state has been assigned three study elements -- farm production, state impacts, <br />
