These areas are rough. <br /> <br />hilly, and some of them very sandy. The grea'hest problem in these <br /> <br />areas is not one of irrigation and water shortages. bu'h a question <br /> <br />of present land use praotices that are not adabtable to the best <br /> <br />-use- that should be _de of both the land and water resources. <br /> <br />METHODS USED m CLASSIFYING IRRIGATED LANDS <br /> <br />r- <br /> <br />WYOMING <br /> <br />(Whalen to Nebraska state Line) <br /> <br />U .S.B oR. pro ject lands I <br /> <br />Irrigated acreage accepted as given by the Bureau <br />of Raclama'hion for acrea€:e in annual reports designated <br />"net cropped acreage."(l) <br /> <br />Lingle Water Users Association I <br /> <br />Association claimed (1940) to irrigate 15,417 acres. <br />We found 13.430 acres which we believe to be substanilially <br />correct as sho1'lIl by aerial photos and our field cruise for <br />the acreage that has actually been irrigated during the <br />past several years. The difference is slightly less than <br />2,000 aores. <br /> <br />Private Canals I <br /> <br />Checked aerial photos by field cruise. Included' both <br />pasture . and crop lands as irrigated if UIlder ditches and <br />served by laterals. <br /> <br />(1) "Net cropped acreage" includes total cropped acreage for the <br />year reported.
