. .
(J 1112 ~ C

"

inflow from the drain was substantially more than the flow orossing

the state line but would not be true during the time of floods.

The flow in Sheep Creek as observed was due almost entirely

to return flow from the Interstate ClIJlal.

A rather hurried trip below North Platte was made as far as

Kearney and the type of agr~culture 9.Ild operation of ditohes _s ob-

served. Many pumping operations v.ere noted in this seotion. It

"WOuld be di1'fioult to estimate the aotual extent of 19.1lds irrigated

by pumps without oonsiderable field work. Construotion of parts of

the Tri-County Projeot and the operation of the Sutherland Reservoir

were also observed.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES:

In Nebraska most of the County Assessors' offioes did not

.,....--

have figures showing the total irrigated aoreages. The assessments

are made at different rates acoording to the quality of the land

whioh would of oourse indireotly indioate whether the 19.1ld is irri-

gated or not. but no summaries of these different rates vere avail-

able. Sootts Blui'f County was the only exoeption. The Cotmty

Assessor's report for this oounty did list the 19.1ld being irrigated.

Mr. Gleason. Superintendent of Power for the North Platte

Projeot. conveyed the idea that most 01' the disputes between Wyoming

and Nebraska could and would be settled by their respective State

Engineers exoept for the legal teohnicali ties that had been brought
up by the North Platte River suit.

It is very much apparent that Nebraska has been able to

deDlllnd water for rights olose to the river where a large portion of

the lands are sub-irrigated meadows end which are automatioally bene-

fi ted or damaged (in oase of seeped areas) from irrigation praotices

above these oanals. It is apparent that the water delivered across

thA S-tate line oould be used to s!!,tisf'y other rights since the de-
