OM n?

,
,

gated land" is difficult to define beca.use of yearly fluctuations

i

in the nl1lllber of acres to which water is actually applied. Terms

applying to aoreages were explained to us in considerable detail,

namely:

"Net cropped acreage" includes all land to which
water has been applied for any partioular year and does
not inolude roads, farm yards. orop failures or idle
lands.

"Developed farms" includes total area in farms for
whioh water is supplied by the projeot. This includes all
roads, buildings, fenoes, etc. on the farms benefited.

nworks oompleted" includes the total irrigable land,
within the project area.

Information concerning the amounts of water actually de-

livered into the State of Nebraska for the years 1938 and 1939 by

the Interst:;ate and Fort Laramie canals was obtained from the

-"-'-
i

Pathfinder Irrigation District and the Goshen Irrigation District.

All of the private ditch oompanies contacted, inoluding

the Farmers Irrigation District, the Torrington Canal Company, and

the Lucerne Canal Company, were reluctant in giving any information,

explaining that it could all be found in the testimony submiti;ed.

Mr. L. C. Bishop, State Engineer for Wyoming, stated that

the aoouracy of all existing records of irrigated acreages for the

State should be questicned; that the County Msesson<' records are

less than the actual acreage because of assessment rates and that

the results of the recent Water Resouroes Survey are not aoceptable,

at least to the several agencies of the State of Wyoming.

All of the irrigated lands under private canals in

Wyoming a.long the main river were checked by use of contact prints.

- 3 -
