<br />. appropriate areas for facilities that <br />serve visitors <br /> <br />4) The type of commercial facilities and services <br />that would complement quality and diverse <br />visitor experiences and resource conservation <br />have been determined. <br /> <br />· FACILITIES - Provide facilities and <br />services that are attractive, safe, accessible, <br />and of high-quality design that are located to <br />minimize their impact on the surrounding <br />landscape and resources. <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />1) The recreation area has appropriately designed <br />and situated visitor facilities, including exhibits <br />that are sensitive to the surrounding <br />environment and readily accessible to all <br />populations. <br /> <br />2) Facilities, including employee housing, <br />commercial service operations, and equipment <br />are appropriate, sufficient, and properly <br />maintained for the park mission and visitor use. <br /> <br />3) State highway maintenance is accomplished in a <br />coordinated and coopcrati ve manner as <br />consistent as possible with NPS policies and the <br />protection of resources. <br /> <br />4) Professional emergency services are provided <br />year-round to park visitors either directly by <br />park staff andlor through innovative <br />cooperation. <br /> <br />5) A strategy has been developed to complement <br />and support the Regional Transportation Plan as <br />it relates to Highways 50, 149, and 92 (not <br />including four-lane highway development) and <br />the construction of bicycle paths along these <br />routes. <br /> <br />6) Facilities serving various functions are <br />efficiently organized and do not conflict with <br />land use. <br /> <br />7) Maintenance and administration facilities are <br />organized in a fashion that protects resources <br />and meets visitor needs. <br /> <br />Geographic-Specific Objectives <br /> <br />· RIPARIAN RIVERINE - Preserve <br />natural riverine processes and aquatic <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />habitat, its functions, and its natural and <br />beneficial values while maintaining the area <br />as an active outdoor classroom for park <br />visitors. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I) Natural succession processes that provide for <br />shifts in organism abundance and distribution <br />when there are changes in the rates and <br />locations of beach-building and erosion from the <br />river are evident. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />2) Habitat and species diversity are monitored and <br />maintained. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />3) A strategy has been developed to determine the <br />level of day use facilities that would complement <br />a quality visitor experience and resource <br />conservation. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />4) Hunting policy considering safety conflicts with <br />the day use area is determined in cooperation <br />with the Colorado Division of Wildlife. <br /> <br />5) Wayside exhibits relating trails, information, <br />and natural processes of the area and an <br />outreach education area are provided. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />· GUNNISON RIVER CANYON - <br />Determine level of day use facilities at <br />Wilson's Landing. Determine level of <br />development of roadside pulloffs. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I) A plan has heen developed that determines the <br />level of day use facilities that would complement <br />a quality visitor experience and resource <br />conservation. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />2) A plan has been developed that detennines the <br />amount of roadside pull ofts necessary to <br />complement a scenic driving experience, <br />provide a quality visitor experience, and provide <br />for interpretation of the park's resources. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />· BLUE MESA - Determine the <br />appropriate levels of visitor use, experience, <br />the reservoir's carrying capacity, reservoir <br />levels, and alternative strategies for <br />maintaining the diversity of quality visitor <br />experiences consistent with Curecanti NRA's <br />purposes and significance. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />
