002160

." ......, .~' -'

In Utah the study area along the Green River is located in Daggett
h
and Uinta~Counties. According to Bureau of Mines information, commercial

mineral production in 1973 was confined to sand and gravel, natural gas,

and petroleum (in desccnding order of value). Value of mineral production

was withheld for that year, but in 1972 was $871,000.

Mineral interest in the Monument area has been low, but value of

Moffat County (Colo.) mineral production has been increasing. Figures

compiled by the Bureau of Mines show a composite annual mineral value

excecding $11 million, including production of natural gas, petroleum,

coal, sand and gravel, copper, and silver.7

. .-', --.--.-"---..

In general, reports on mineral investigations in the Moriument have

not been encouraging. According to two previous investigators who spent

many years in and around the area, "No minerals of proven economic

po 1P .

importance occur within the boundaries of Dinosaur National Honumcnt."8

However.
