<br />002159 <br /> <br />and Pennsylvanian age. However, near the southern end of Mitten Park <br /> <br />Fault, the river flows for about l~ miles (2~ km) on the Uinta Mountain <br />Group. Jurassic age sediments are found in as-mile (8-km) river interval <br /> <br />upstream from anticlinal Split Mountain. The Jurassic age rocks, deposited <br /> <br />in a marine environment, include limestones and shales, plus sandstones <br /> <br />derived from beach sands.S <br />Besides the Mitten Park, another major fault is located downstream. <br /> <br /> <br />This, the Island Park Fault, is about 7 miles (11 km) downstream from <br /> <br /> <br />where the southern end of Mitten Park Fault crosses the Green River. <br /> <br /> <br />The Yampa Fault is the largest in Dinosaur National Monument. The <br /> <br />steep-angled, north dipping fault plane, roughly paraIlels the south side <br />of the Yampa River, but does not extend far enough westward to cross the <br />Green River (fig. 1). Maximum vertical displacement on the fault is <br />approximately 4,000 ft (1,219 m). <br /> <br />MINERAL RESOURCES <br />"Mineral development is the major industry of the Green River <br /> <br />Subregion. Oil and natural gas are of primary importance. Also of <br /> <br />major importance are coal, gilsonite, asphalt, and trona (soda ash). <br /> <br />Vast reserves of oil shale are present and offer potential for large <br /> <br />future industrial developments."6 <br /> <br />SHayes, P.
