The yield from wells tapping these sources were estimated to be too low for
economical use for irrigation. However, two glacial aquifers in the Beaver Creek watershed were identified as
potential alternatives to additional surface reservoir storage. These sites were not considered further in this study
because additional field studies would have been required to better evaluate their potential.

Four reservoir sites were initially considered as project elements, and two more were later added in conjunction

with the San Miguel Canyon Hydropower Project (San Miguel Canyon Project) described subsequently. Of the

four initial sites considered, the Lone Cone, Lilylands and Marie Scott Reservoirs were evaluated primarily as

storage facilities for irrigation water with recreation as a potential secondary purpose while Radium Reservoir was

evaluated exclusively for wildlife habitat and recreational purposes. All six of the reservoir sites identified were

selected as project elements for inclusion in one or more of the alternative projects, or as an optional feature

which could be added to some of the projects. The characteristics and dimensions of these reservoirs are given in

Tables V-I and V-2. Additional explanation of Radium Reservoir and the San Miguel Canyon Project follows.

V-3
