DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
~ATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION SERVICE
Grand Junction (970)242-4511

Nov 18, 1997

I

I Client Name: Hawkeye Ditch Co.
Business Name: Hawkeye Ditch Co.
Business 10: 1604

~-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I
1
1
1
1
I
1
I
1
1

1--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I
I
I
I

Assistance Notes for Date Range
11/17/97 - 11/18/97

-The Hawkeye Ditch is responsible to re-route any utilities that are in
the ~ath of the pipeline.
-A pr~vate engineering firm will conduct tests on the concrete that is
used for the inlet structure. The Hawkeye Ditch will cover the costs of
this testing.
-Depending on what is found in the field, the concrete connection blocks
may be altered in the field. In some cases connection blocks may not be
needed as found on the design.
-The height of the 21" meter pits may vary from what is found on the
design because the ground surface may change after the initial earthwork
is completed.
-All takeout structures and the associated weir plates must be dead
level to design elevations.
-The fabricated steel cannot be drilled or cut after the metal is coated.
If it is cut or drilled, the metal must be re-coated.
-The Hawkeye Ditch is responsible for the exact placement of all takeout
structures.
-The Hawkeye Ditch is responsible to communicate with the contractor
if flow meters are to be installed instead of weir plates. Any
additional cost is the responsibility of the Hawkeye Ditch.
-If flow meters are installed instead of weir plates, it may be
necessary to install stub valves instead of alfalfa valves as shown on
the takeout details. The NRCS will determine what type of valve to
use.
-The installed pipe must meet the pressure test requirements outlined in
the specifications. GJ Pipe said that they would test each joint as it
is installed to insure that it is installed correctly. The NRCS will
determine acceptability after the project is completely installed.
-The clay dams called for on the design will aid the contractor in
locating any leaks in the pipe. The contractor may choose to not
install the clay dam on the concrete pipe.
-All thrust blocks and gravel backfill must extend to the undisturbed
soil in the trench.
-Louis will keep a dail~ diary to record all progress and quantities. He
will discuss the quant~ties with the contractor on a daily basis to
insure that there are no discrepancies in the quantities.
