~

The 68.1 acre-feet of water required for domestic consumption in the

month of July is the same as domestic and commercial water requirements for

all of the rest of the months when this is converted to cubic feet per second.

This conversion is 1.11 cfs, or 497.06 gallons per minute (GPM).

Should it be practical or feasible to any extent to ask the Eagle

Ranch Corporation to include two systems in their development, One for

domestic and commercial use and the other for irrigation, only 801.8 acre-

feet of water would have to be treated by the normal filtering processes.

If the total 1,468.5 acre-feet of water requirements would have to be treated

using a diatomaceous earth filtering system, the cost of the diatomaceous

earth alone would be approximately $34,000 per year. (This is based on the

cost of diatomaceous earth at $0.07 per thousand gallons.) The cost of

diatomaceous earth to filter water for domestic and commercial use alone

would amount to about $18,000 per year. This is a savings in the neighbor-

hood of $16,000 annually. It would appear prudent at this time to suggest

that the water for irrigation for proposed Eagle Ranch Corporation development

be provided from Brush Creek without the necessity of treating it. Along

this same line, it would also be practical to suggest that if the town could

construct a dual water system and treat only that water which would be used

for domestic consumption, there would be a large savings in operational costs.

It is estimated that the average household in Eagle would use only 10,000

gallons per month for domestic use. Based on 421 taps the estimated consump-

tion for domestic use is 4,210,000 gallons of water yet the actual average

use per month is 7,020,000 gallons or an average excess of 2,810,000 gallons

used per month beyond what is normally required for domestic use. At a cost

of $0.07 per thousand for diatomaceous earth this could be a monthly savings

of approximately $195.00. However, this is not feasible due to the tradi-

tional and historic domestic water use of Eagle or of any older municipality.

.

~,

.

- 22 -
