I

I

deficiency rating assessed. Additional storage facilities/to meet fire

I

flow,' requirements should be elevated storage tanks.

Distribution Syste~.

The location and size of mains are shown on

I

Plate 1. The system consis.ts of 6", 4", 2" and 1" mains. Fire hydrants

and valves are located as shown on Plate I. Most of the mains are cast iron

I

with leaded joints with the exception of the 1" mains and part of the 2"

I

mains, which are galvanized steel pipe. Most of the distribution system

is undersized as far as delivering required fire flows and will require

I

augmentation or replacement with larger mains. There are numerous dead end

mains which need to be looped and several areas of the town will require

I

fire hydrant installations to meet current hydrant spacing criteria. Flow

I

tests were conducted on September 30, 1975 at various points throughout the

existing system and the results are tabulated in Table 6.

I

I

Table 6
Fire Hydrant Flow Tests
**
Allowable
* Fire Flow
Hydrant Static Flow Measured @ 20 psi Type & Size Hydrant
Location Pressure Pressure Flow Residual Remarks
First St. & 53 psi 5 psi 4 psi Type A
Grant Ave. 331 gpm 270 gpm
Second St. & 50 psi 12 psi 7.5 psi Type A
Lincoln Ave. 453 gRm 399 gpm
Third St. & 54 psi 12 psi 6 psi Type A
Grant Ave. 405 gpm 361 gpm
Fourth St. & 53 psi 35 psi 17.5 psi (1) Type A
Lincoln Ave. 691 gpm 959 gpm
Fifth St. & 50 psi 46 psi 3.5 psi 917 gpm(l) Type B-very hard to
Lincoln Ave. 309 gpm close hydrant

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

-23-
