,

1"-4

Based upon available data and population projections, it has been

concluded that reasonable population projections cannot be made at

this time. However, such projections are not necessary to adequately

plan for water system improvements if a phased planning approach is

used.

The phasing has been divided into three categories for water system
planning, which are described in Section IV of this report.

OTHER WATER SYSTEMS

.

There are five independent water supply systems that serve domestic
water to various areas around Hotchkiss. Wright McLaughlin Engineers
has not made a detailed analysis on any'of these water systems.

.

The Crawford Mesa Water System derives its water supply from springs
on the flanks of Landsend peak. The company delivers private domestic
water to several residences on Crawford Mesa. At some time in the
future this company may compete with the Hotchkiss water supply
system to serve development north of Crawford Mesa and South of
the North Fork. It is not expected that the Crawford Mesa Water
System will serve any of the bottom lands of the North Fork near
Hotchkiss. The manager of the Crawford Mesa Water System is
Don Reid of Crawford.

Lazear has its own water supply system, generally referred to as
the "Girl ing System". It is reported that the system is near its
physical capacity and will probably not expand its service area.

,

Both the Rogers Mesa Water System and the Hotchkiss Water System

use Leroux Creek water, and both divert this water from the Highline

Ditch. Currently, the Rogers Mesa System, managed by Dwight Lewis,

takes its water from the ditch about four miles below Hotchkiss's

diversion point: This svstem is now nearing its capacity ,to serve

its present customers. Among some members of this system there is
