.

111-3

GROWTH POTENTIAL (SERVICE AREA LIMITS)

.

The maximum service area of the Hotchkiss water supply system is

logically limited by several physical and geographic features. This

section defines such limits for an ultimate service area which Hotch-

kiss might economically consider serving with water. For this report

we have assumed that the maximum service area would be limited as

follows:

1. To the west of Leroux Creek.

2. To land below elevation 5,500 feet so as to be able to produce

adequate pressure. (Low density areas on Powell Mesa and the

upper portion of Barrow Mesa are served under outside contracts

via a master meter. Water service should not be expanded to

any additional taps above 5,500 feet.)

3. There would be no water service within the boundaries of the

Leroux and North Fork 100-year flood plain.

4. Base of the hills south of the North Fork. There would be no

water service on the dry hills south of the Short Ditch.

5. West of Jay Creek.

.

.

The above described maximum service area includes a gross area of

2,000 acres. The net area approaches 1200 acres after the exclusion

of flood plains and other undevelopable lands.

Potential For Development
The potential for development of the Hotchkiss water service area
hinges primarily on outside influences closely related to energy
development and land use policies of the State of Colorado and Delta
County.

Preferably, development which occurs will be situated where urban
services can be reasonably and economically provided.

,

The previously described ultimate water service area would have a
reasonable maximum population potential of 4,000 people. This is
an upper limit and is not to be used for planning purposes.

;
