,

11/-5

an inclination not to expand the system even on Rogers Mesa. If

the district's policy becomes a non-growth policy, it is conceivable

that some portions of Rogers Mesa may apply to Hotchkiss for water.

There appears to be a potential for a joint venture between Hotchkiss

and Rogers Mesa to improve their diversion facilities from Leroux

Creek.

The Bone Mesa water system, managed by Fred Venard of Paonia, serves

Bone Mesa and lands south of the North Fork near the old lumber mill.

Sunshine Mesa has its own private water system run by Frank Brodel of

Paonia. This system receives its water from springs, serves about

15 taps, and is reported to be near capacity.

.

The four smaller water syst~S (Crawford Mesa, Lazear, Bone Mesa, and
Sunshine Mesa) are not contiguous to the Town of Hotchkiss and are near
thei r maximum service capac.ity. As far as we know, they have no plans
or intent for expansion. Hotchkiss development of a new water system
would have little effect on these systems.

.

Roger's Mesa water system has the logical potential to work with the
Hotchkiss water system on a r~w water supply delivery system -- and
vice versa. This is accounted for in Phase III with a new transmission
line along the Highline Ditch right-of-way. The logical division of
service areas between the two districts is Leroux Creek.

HOTCHKISS WATER SERVICE AREA

.

At the present time the Hotchkiss water system is obliged to serve

all users within the town's corporate limits. The town has agreed

to provide service to selected water users outside of town: specifi-

cally, the homes south of Hotchkiss Street, the Fairgrounds area,

a few homes north of Lorah Avenue, the Knob Hill area, and a few

users along the main water transmission line. Currently the system

serves 240 acres within the town limits and about 150 acres outside

of town.
