;.

The maximum day water demands for Phase I, I I, and I I I are 0.81, 1.11, and
1.52 mi II ion gallons per day (MGD) respectively.

The water rights owned and controlled by the Town of Hotchkiss are adequate

for Phase I I' level of development. It is anticipated that storage water COn-

trolled by the Town will be utilized to supplement the flow of Leroux Creek

during winter periods.

Ground water investigations at Hotchkiss indicate that alluvial supplies are
unsatisfactory because of quality; however, it is believed that deep non-trib-
utary ground water is available in limited quantities.

!

A review of the water system and the quality of water furnished the customers
at Hotchkiss by the Colorado Department of Health, has pinpointed a critical
problem because of turbidity, color, and bacteriological quality. For this
reason, improvement of the Town water system to meet minimum municipal stan-
dards is a high priority item locally, regionally, and on the state level.

,

FACILITIES MASTER PLAN

A detailed facilities plan has been developed for the Town of Hotchkiss and

is presented in Chapter V of this report. Hotchkiss has a system based upon

surface water diversion many miles to the north of Town. The long water trans-

mission 1 ines, the poor condition of the water treatment plant, and the worn-

out distribution system, creates special problems for Hotchkiss in terms of

capital investment required. This Master Plan is based upon full utilization

of existing facilities wherever possible and maintaining components in service

for as long a time as practical so as to reduce the financial burden required
in the re-vamping of the water system. It is for this reason that the overall
master plan is divided into three phases with only the most necessary work
called for in Phase I.

~

.
