.
,

Fire flow capability in the Town does not meet normal fire fighting require-
ments and the quality of the water is sometimes inadequate,

Revamping of the Town water system is a high priority item in Hotchkiss.

Income generated by the water system has been inadequate. The Town has been

transferring revenue sharing funds into the water fund to supplement water

rent and tap fee income.

LAND USE

Delta County does not have land use zoning at the present time. The Hotch-

kiss municipal boundries include approximately 240 acres. Rural sprawl in

the Hotchkiss area is a problem. A good municipal water system would tend

to encourage new growth in the area to be contiguous to the Town of Hotchkiss.

~

WATER

.

The municipal water system serves a total of 436 taps representing a popula-
tion of 950. Analysis of the water customers indicates a total equivalent
residential unit count of 535. Planning for the present and future potential
growth for the Town of Hotchkiss has resulted in three phases of planned de-
velopment ranging from 550 EQR for Phase I to 1,000 EQR for Phase II I as indi-
cated in the following table.

Phase 0 r
Level of
Development

EQR
550

Population
per
EQR

1.8

Population
Served

1,000

II

750

2;0

1,500

Comments

Approximate existing level
of development

50 per cent growth in pop-
ulation

Maximum design development

III

1,000

2.5

2,500

to

,
