Since all engineering will be done by the Soil Conservation Service,

all we need to add are funds for contract administration and legal fees. For this

study we will estimate this at three percent (3%) of the total construction costs.

For alternative No.2, this will be about $78,000. We, therefore, have a total

estimated cost of $2,680,000. As can be seen, this is higher than the $2,400,000

available for the rehabilitation of this project. There would be areas which

could not be rehabilitated due to lack of funds. The areas which would have to

remain earthen would be picked on their existing conditions, with the best sections

remaining. Those reaches of ditch with extensive deterioration would be attended

to first. The remainder of the ditch which cannot be concrete lined under this

project, should be budgeted for as soon as possible. We recommend that the portion

of the ditch which must remain earthen be stripped, shaped and compacted until

the time it also can be reconstructed with concrete lining.

30
