<br />~ <br />,- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~'~ <br /> <br />.'- <br /> <br />The computer model shall Have the capability of simulating the <br />operation of storage reserovirs and direct flow diversions under <br />the water rights priority system as administrered in the Basin. <br />The computer model shall be calibrated to accurately reflect <br />historic streamflow for a suitable period of record. <br /> <br />T~sk 9 - Geological and Geotechnical Investigations <br /> <br />The Contractor will compile and review all available <br />relevant information on the geology of the Cache la poudre Basin <br />upstream of Fort Collins to include maps, aerial photos, drill <br />logs, well logs, any available geologic mapping as well as <br />published and unpublished data from the Bureau of Reclamation. <br /> <br />During Phase I of the study, the Contractor will <br />utilize this information to provide a general assessment of the <br />geologic suitability of various potential project sites and the <br />general availability of construction materials. <br /> <br />'" <br /> <br />During Phase II of the study, the Contractor will <br />utilize the same information with site inspections to more <br />closely assess geologic suitability and construction material <br />availability of specific sites for the alternative(s) selected <br />for detailed evaluation. <br /> <br />Task 10 - Formulate Preliminary Alternatives <br /> <br />For this task, the Contractor will formulate no less <br />than four and no more than six preliminary alternative projects. <br />Each alternative project shall consist of one or more storage <br />facilities with associated pumping plants, diversion dams, <br />conduits, tunnels, canals and hydroelectric plants all with <br />appurtenant structures. <br /> <br />In conjunction with structural options, the Contractor <br />shall evaluate various modes of operation and management to <br />maximize the yield of the river system and the generation of <br />hydroelectric power. Alternatives shall be developed and <br />evaluated in consultation with the State. <br /> <br />utilizing the computer simulation model developed in <br />Task 8, the Contractor will conduct preliminary operation studies <br />for each of the alternative projects. The operation studies <br />will be conducted for the various water rights assumptions <br />outlined in Task 6. <br /> <br />During the formulation of alternatives, operation <br />studies will be used in an iterative process to estimate the <br />water yield and the hydropower production of each alternative by <br />varying locations, sizes and methods of operating various <br />facilities within each proposed configuration. The final results <br />of the operation studies will be a major factor in selecting the <br />alternative(s) to be evaluated in greater detail in Phase II. <br /> <br />-7- <br />
