The present

. plan, as defined by the former Colorado Division of Game, Fish and Parks,

is to build a 57 feet high dam which will create a reservoir with a maximum
surface area of 262 acres at elevation 6340 feet with a total capacity of

5,250 acre-feet, at an estimated project cost of $425,000.

The alternatives proposed herein will provide emergency water storage for a

steam electric generating plant which is to be built southwest of the City

of Craig near the Yampa River.

The first alternative is to increase the dam height to 70 feet and raise the

reservoir surface elevation to 6355 feet. This change would increase the sur-

face area to 385 acres and the total capacity to 9,580 acre-feet. This con-

figuration will provide emergency storage capacity for two 350,000 kilowatt (net)
generating units, and is estimated to have an additional cost of $317,000 for

an estimated total project cost of $769,000.

The second alternative is to increase the dam height to 80 feet and raise the

reservoir surface elevation to 6364 feet. This change would increase the

surface area to 440 acres and the total capacity to 13,560 acre-feet. This

configuration will provide emergency storage capacity for four 350,000 kilowatt
generating units, and is estimated to have an additional project cost of

$572,000 for an estimated total project cost of $1,024,000.

It should be emphasized that these proposals are for emergency water storage

only. The normal water demand for the steam electric generating plant will be

i
