<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />'ADVANCES BY THE UNITED STATES <br />4. (~) The sum of the following items shall not exceed, in aggregate, <br />the amount of $5,640,000. <br />(1) All advances made by the United States; <br />(2) Interest earned on advances; <br /> <br />(3) Other income earned from advances; and <br /> <br />(4) Costs of the United States described in Article 6. <br />(b) Upon approval by the Contracting Officer of the master work <br />schedule and the detailed work schedule for the initial quarter or any subse- <br />quent quarter, the United States will advance to the Contractor no later than <br /> <br />the first day of each quarter the sums of money shown as the quarterly'require- <br /> <br />ment on the approved detailed work schedules, less any estimated balance of <br /> <br />funds available therefor from prior advances. In the event that funds advanced <br /> <br />by the United States are expended prior to the end of the initial quarter,or <br /> <br />any subsequent quarter, additional sums may be advanced on the basis of a <br /> <br />supplemental detailed work schedule approved in like manner as the first. Each <br /> <br />quarterly or other advance of funds subsequent to the jnitial advance shall be <br /> <br />dependent upon the performance by the Contractor, in a manner satisfactory to <br /> <br />the Contracting Officer, of any prior work, but such advance shall not commit <br /> <br />the Contracting Officer to approval of performance of such prior work. The <br /> <br />Contracting Officer, at his election, may withhold any advance of funds con- <br /> <br />templated hereunder at any time when, in his opinion, the Contractor is in <br /> <br />default or delinquent with respect to performance of any of the terms or con- <br /> <br />ditions of this contract. <br />(c) The funds advanced hereunder by the United States shall be used <br /> <br />only for costs and expenses incurred by the Contractor for the performance of <br /> <br />approved detailed work schedules.
