The
Porter Ditch, which is also existing, diverts water from West Divide
Creek below the dam site. Because of its location, the USBR Kendig
site can deliver water only to the Porter Ditch which leaves about
1700 acres of land without regulated flow. For this reason another
dam site was included in the analysis for this study. The new site,
located upstream of the Highline Di tch is designated as Upper Kendig,
to differentiate it from the USBR :3i te which is designated as Lower
Kendig. Both of these sites are discussed in this section.

I
I

IV-6

II
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

2. Geologic and Geotechni,cal Analysis

The site of the proposed L'Jwer Kendig Dam is on West Divide
Creek in the SW 1/4, Section 7, Township 8 South, Range 91 West.
Geotechnical investigations were made of the proposed site by the U.S.
Bureau of Reclamation 1n 1978 (Ref. 29). The general geology of the
proposed Lower Kendig site and of the proposed Upper Kendig site
upstream from the point of diversion of the Highline Ditch in the NW
1/4, Section 29, Township 8 South, Range 91 West, was reviewed on July
24, 1985.

The geology of the proposed Lower Kendig dam and reservoir
site is typical of that on the southeast edge of the Piceance Creek
