CHAPl'ER VII MISSOURI HEIGHTS ENLARGEMEm' PLAN Outdoor Residential Use Benefits from outdoor residential use are estimated at an average of $355,000 annually, based on the cost of the cheapest single-purpose alternative means of development. The alternative was based on purchase of water from Ruedi Reservoir and included a system to pump water from the Roaring Fork River near El Jebel, approximately 4 miles below Basalt, to the head of the Landis Canal. It also included a canal that would follow the same alignment as the Landis Canal in the plan previously dis- cussed in this chapter. An estimate was made of the cost of pumping the full supply of 3,000 acre-feet of water annually anticipated for outdoor residential use 20 years following project construction. This amount was then adjusted to reflect smaller amounts of water that would be used in early years of project operation. 'Derivation of the benefits is shown below. . These are based on annual visitations of 20,000 people, estimated Qy the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, and a benefit of $0.75 per visit, estimated by the Bureau of Reclamation. Summary of Benefits Total benefits for the Missouri Heights enlargement plan average $420,700 annually over a lOO-year period as shown on the following page.
