The irrigated lands are used primarily for the pro- <br />duction of hay and other forage crops fer livestock feed. Nonirrigated <br />lands are mainly range lands and provide only meager seasonal grazing. <br />Vegetation is limited to small native grasses and brushes. The mountain- <br />ous'areas surrounding the project provide excellent opportunities for <br />hunting, fishing, and other types of recreation. <br /> <br />Transportation facilities <br /> <br />Transcontinental U. S. Highway 110 traverses most of the project area. <br />Several State and county roads connect with the highway and serve related <br />areas within the project area. A branch line of the Denver and Rio Grande <br />Western Railroad extends along the upper reach of Yampa River and termin~ <br />ates at Craig, Colo. There is no commercial airline service within the <br />project area. United and Frontier Airlines, however, have flights to <br />Grand Junction, Colo., approximately 80 miles south of Artesia, and Fron~ <br />tier Airlines has regular flights to Vernal, Utah. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />9 <br />
