I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

developing a plan of augmentation to make up the difference between the amount

taken and the amount returned, Based on the assumed water demands and waste-

water loads described in Section II of this' report, the difference would be

.50 gpcd plus some evaporation loss from the proposed wastewater treatment

system. The total augmentation re'l.uired for the future design population

would be about 10 gpm (gallons per minute), This augmentation water could

be derived from an existing deep well (not 'hydraulically connected to the

surface water), Since the wastewater from the Highway Department's rest

areas is produced from deep wells, it may be possible to obtain credit for

the return flow from the Department's portion of the wastewater discharge.

There are two possible problems with this alternative,

1, A shallow well may not be reliable during dry periods.

2. Some local shallow wells on Plum Creek reportedly yield poor
'l.uality water with high iron content.

The estimated cost to develop a well on Plum Creek and transport the

water to the proposed distribution system in Larkspur is approxilnately

$47,000, This figure includes one additional pressure reducing station to

allow the proposed distribution system to also function as a transmission

main, the well and pump, a well house, and a cost multiplier of 1..52 to

I
I
I
I
I
I

cover contingency, inflation, engineering, legal and administrative costs

during construction.

The operation and maintenance costs for electrical power and chlorine

disinfectant is estimated at $1,.500 per year. Present worth of the annual

o & M costs at 7% interest and 20 year term is $16,000 so the total present

worth of this alternative, excluding any land costs, is approximately $63,000.

12
