WATER SYSTEM
Supply Alternatives
Five alternative water supplies have been identified. They are listed
below and then evaluated in this section,
1. Continue to use indi vidua.l shallow wells.
2. Drill and complete a shallow well in Plum Creek alluvium.
3. Purchase water from the Perry Park Water and Sanitation District.

4. Buy an existing local deep well or the water from that well.

5. Drill and complete a new deep well in the Dawson-Arkose bedrock
acquifer.

Alternative 1 is essentially to "do nothing" as far as water supply is

concerned. Constructing a conununity' wastewater system to eliminate individual

septic systems will reduce the danger of bacterial contamination of the indi-

vidual water supplies. However, the problems of wells "drying up" in sUllllner,

the lack of adequate fire protection, and the poor chemical quality of some
individual wells will not be alleviated.
From an overall "conununity" viewpoint, if anyone of the other alter-
natives is feasible, this "do nothing" alternative should be eliminated.

I
I
I
I
I

Alternative 2 would consist of drilling a new well about 40 feet deep

into the gravel alluvium of Plum Creek. The well could be located near the

present road across the Creek and would require a minimum amount of trans-

mission piping to reach the proposed new water distribution system.

Legal right to take water from Plum Creek (the water would be consi-
dered as part of the South Platte River system) could be obtained by claiming
credit for th, return flow from the proposed wastewater treatment system and

I

1J.
