Water Rights and Flood Hydrology
D.l Water Rights
There are two points of diversion for the Greeley and Loveland Irrigation system which
include the Big Barnes Ditch and Loveland and Greeley CanaL The Big Barnes Ditch diverts water
from the Big Thompson River into Lake Loveland as shown on Figure Ill-I. The water is then
conveyed into Horseshoe Reservoir by Lake Loveland's north outlet. The water is then regulated
into Boyd Lake or into Heinricy Lake, The water is then regulated into Boyd Lake once again or into
Upper and Lower Hoffinan Lakes. Westerdoll Lake presently collects local drainage and the water
is then regulated into Upper and Lower Hoffinan Lakes. The water is then regulated into the Greeley
and Loveland Canal at Hubbs Check. The water is then conveyed via Greeley and Loveland Canal
into Equalizer Reservoir. Equalizer Reservoir regulates the water in the Greeley and Loveland Canal
system for agricultural use east of Loveland,

The City of Greeley has the ability to divert water for municipal use from Lake Loveland via
a pipeline into a holding pond just west of Boyd Lake and north of Lower Hoffinan Lake, The water
from the holding pond is then piped to the treatment facility located just south of Boyd Lake, The
City also has the ability to divert water directly from Boyd Lake into their treatment facilities, Boyd
Lake water can also be diverted through an outlet located on the east side of Boyd Lake back into
the Greeley and Loveland Canal.

The second point of diversion, Greeley and Loveland Canal, diverts water from the Big
Thompson River downstream of the Big Barnes Ditch diversion, The water is then regulated by
Hubbs Check into Equalizer Reservoir.

Table Ill-2lists the reservoirs' storage capacities, Tables Ill-3 and Ill-4 list the direct flow
and storage rights of the Greeley and Loveland Inigation Company, respectively. The average annual
yield of the overall system is 66,359 acre-feet. This project will not provide any additional water
rights or water supplies for the Company.

E:\G&LREPOR.
