Visual trips along the route show

some outcropping, but the exact depth, amount, hardness, etc.,

will not be known until some test holes ~re dug. Secondly care

will have to be taken to make the grade exact, as the pipeline

is gravity having :1:3'-00" bury depth. One precaution will be

the use of pressurized pipe. The pressurized pipe will allow

pressure to build up rather than burst the pipe should a block-

age occur. Secondly, it gives added protection from damage by

equipment due to the shallow bury depth. No wet conditions are

expected save for a short section in Cottonwood Canyon. Some

steep gradients are expected and will require extra equipment

as with the rock.

5. Alternate IVa (revised); (Exhibit Xlllf)
Alternate IVa (revised) is basically the same as

Alternate IV. It likewise encompasses Alternate III. Features

as described in Alternate IV are repetitious in nature to this

Alternate. The basic advantage of Alternate IVa (revised) over

Alternate IV is a more direct routing of the pipeline. The pipe

diameter has been increased from 6" to 8" and Class 100 Irrigation

27
