I
I
I
I
I
I
1
I
1
I
I
1
1
1
1
I
1
1
1

filter properly, a pressure of 65 psi is needed. In Alternates

I, II~ IV and IVA (revised), this is accomplished by gravity flow.

Alternate II, should a filter be used, will utilize submersible

turbines to develop the required pressure and to pump the treated

water to the storage tank.

b.) The five Alternates listed below are proposed to transmit

water from the source to the distribution system. A brief descrip-

tion of the Alternates with good and poor features is listed below.

(Note: Alternates not listed in order of pri~rity.)
1. Alternate I:

Alternate I proposes an alternate point of diversion

from Beaver Creek to East Dallas Creek below their confluence.

Water normally diverted from Beaver Creek together with Ridgway

Springs #2 and #3 and the Austin Spring into the Ridgway Ditch

would be allowed to continue downstream to the confluence with

East Dallas Creek. A diversionary intake structure utilizing

an infiltration gallery for subsurface water will be constructed.

This will allow water which has been somewhat pre-filtered to be

intercepted. A 6" diameter pipeline will carry the raw water to

the treatment plant. The plant location will be dependent on

developing sufficient pressure to properly operate the high rate

filter by gravity (65 psi or approximately 150 vertical feet of

head). The use of gravity will lower operation and maintenance

costs by exclusion of pumps needed to produce the pressure head

required. Backflush will be automated by use of a pressure drop

17
