The <br />basic plan of development provides for storage of surplus runoff occur- <br />ring from snow melting during the spring and early summer months so that <br />it may be used during periods of low flow. The 30-year period, 1928 <br />through 1957, which contains several critically low runoff periods, <br />has been taken by the Bureau of Reclamation as a conservative basis for <br />estimating future water supply for the project. <br /> <br />Streamflows <br /> <br />". <br />~. '. . <br /> <br />.' .c' <br /> <br />The State of Colorado and the U. S. Geological Survey have main- <br />tained stream gaging stations at a number of sites on the Dolores River <br />and tributaries both above and below the McPhee Dam site.
