,} PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE Supplemental water for 28,660 acres and full irrigation service for 32,340 acres will be provided by diversions from McPhee Reservoir. In order to develop the project water supply, three terminal reservoirs, Cahone, Ruin Canyon, and MonUlllent Creek, in the Dove Creek area are proposed in conjunction with the McPhee Reservoir. These reservoirs, having a total capacity of 25,780 acre-feet, would have the primary purpose of reducing the required capacity of the canals leading to the reservoirs. A new lateral system ~lill be constructed to serve full service land to provide water to each farm unit. Valley Irrigation Company will distribute both project water to supplemental service lands under its system. the areas of The Montezuma and nonproject ,~ . ~. Drainage facilities will be provided as a part of project develop- ment in the full service areas. At the request of the Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company, no drains are planned for the Montezuma Valley a.rea. ., .:\ ".,e'} The project will provide an average of 126,900 acre-feet of water annually, Of this amount, 6,100 acre-feet will be furnished to Cortez and Dove Creek for municipal and industrial uses; 17,200 acre-feet will be furnished to the Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company for sup- plemental irrigation and 103,600 acre-feet will be furnished to full service lands. Terminal storage facilities will be required at each community for winter use and periods when the entire capacity of the canals are re~uired for irrigation. The potential project development plans provide for construction of new sewage treatment facilities for Dolores to minimize organic pollution of the McPhee Reservoir water. This iS'necessary as the existing facilities are located within the potential reservoir area. '",' ",-' Population Towns and cOlllIl1unities lying within and adjacent to the project area include Dolores, Cortez, Yellow Jacket, Pleasant View, Lewis, ArriOla, Cell one , Dove Creek, Rico, Stoner, Towoac, Lakeview, and Sylvan in Colorado; Ucola and Cedar Point in Utah. ~!esa Verde National Park lies illll11ediately southeast of' the project area and the Revenweep National Monument lies southwest of the project area. The principal trading centers are Cortez and Durango, Durango is about 80 miles from Dove Creek. li8
