The progress of the various developments
mentioned have been hampered ln part by the present deficien-
cies in the water distribution system and lack of adequate
fire protection which is provided by the system. Other de-
ficiencies in storage capacity and transmission capacity
have been resolved by recent water facility improvement
projects as described below.

3. EXISTING WATER SYSTEM FACILITIES
The existing water system provides customer service to 155
in-town taps and 8 out-of-town taps. The majority of these
taps serve residential uses.

A. Water Supply
The water supply consists of three main sources. Namely,
well water purchased under contract from a private indi-
vidual and pumped to the Town's collection reservoir,
well water provided by the Town's several wells and a
system of small springs and collection galleries owned by
the Town which discharge to this reservoir. By far, the
largest volume is the water purchased under a renewable
lease. The purchased water is supplied by a pipe line
which provides a flow of approximately 80 gpm. The source
of the supply is a privately owned well. The Town is
provided with approximately 42 million gallons per year
which is in excess of the Town's needs by a factor of 2.5.
The volume not used is wasted to an evaporation pond.
The major well and the springs supply 25 gpm and 30 gpm
respectively and operate at varied times of the year. The
total w~ter usage for the past year (1980) was approximate-
'-iy-'(~-,~_~5.,~-6O)gallons. The low month was December with
618,600 gallons used and the peak month was July with
2,647,000 gallons used. The overall average was 1,410,400
gallons per month.

-3-
