The wet well at the pump-house receives the water from the wood
stave transmission line where it is picked up by two 6-stage turbine pumps.
Each of these pumps has a rated capacity of 250 GPM at a TDH of approximately
160 feet. Chlorination and fluoridation is applied to the pumping lines up-
stream of the filters. These pumps deliver water to two pressure-sand filters.
Each pump services one of the filters with no inter-connection between. Filter
Number 1 was installed in 1922 and Filter Number 2 was installed in 1950. The
water is then delivered by two 6-inch cast iron mains to storage reservoirs on
the hill South of Town.

g. Storage Reservoirs -- Pump Number 1 delivers water to a circular
concrete reservoir, constructed in 1922, whose top is at ground surface. A second
rectangular concrete reservoir with the same top elevation was constructed in
1950. This reservoir, with a capacity of 80,000 gallons, receives the water from
Pump Number 2. These tanks are inter-connected. A third storage reservoir was
added to the system in 1976 and, at the date of writin9 of this report, is in the
process of being put into full operation. This reservoir is a reconditioned
bolted steel tank with a capacity of 125,000 gallons. It is connected to the dis-
tribution system by a direct connection to the 8-inch line which runs Easterly
from the reservoir. It will be filled by a 6-inch direct connection from Pumping
Line Number 2. Pumping Line Number 2 will be disconnected from the rectangular
concrete reservoir and the water level in the two concrete reservoirs will be con-
trolled by an altitude valve installed on the original 6-inch cast iron pumping
main from Pump Number 1. Flows from the new tank will keep the older concrete
reservoirs full until such time as the water level in all three reservoirs equal-
ize.

h. Distribution System -- The Town delivers to its distribution system
through the original 6-inch cast iron pumping main from the pump-house to the
circular tank. In 1973, two 8-inch lines were installed. One runs East from the

-7-
