In fact, the problems
associated with supplying adequate water to the Town have been a major concern
of the Town Board for at least the last four years.

Existing Facilities -- The existing water production and supply facili-
ties can briefly be described as follows:
a.. Water intakes are located in the bed of the Yampa River and draw
water directly by gravity to a wet well located on the South. bank of. the Yampa
River.

b. The wet well and pumping facilities consist of a concrete block pump-
house with two 20 horsepower pumps, each capable of producing 610 GPM which lift
the water from the wet well into the clarifier unit. Two manually controlled
chemical feeders meter alum and soda-ash directly into the wet well at this point.

c. Clarifier - A circular concrete clarifier was installed by the Town
in 1962 under the supervision of Robinson Engineering. This unit received
the water from the previously mentioned wet well lift pumps and provides flash
mixing, flocculation and retention times as shown in a more detail analysis of
this unit.

d. Water flows by gravity from the clarifier to a 15,000 gallon equal-
izing reservoir located immediately West of the clarifier building. This res-
ervoir has an overflow which limits the omount of head that can be placed on the
transmission main

e. Transmission Main -- The water is conveyed from the 15,000 gallon
equalizing reservoir approximately 1,800 feet in a Southwesterly direction to the
Town's original pump-house located South of the railroad tracks and East of Walnut
Avenue. This line is a 12-inch gravity line of wood stave construction and was
installed sometime between 1913 and 1922 and has been in service every since.

- 6-
