I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Generally speaking, water quality for the Yampa River is good for domestic,
municipal, industrial, and agricultur31 purposes. The water is well within
the current standards for municipal water suppl ies for most of the measured
parameters. Total dissolved solids, sulfate, and manganese are the only
parameters which occasionally exceed the standards. Concentrations of each of
these parameters are reduced below municipal drinking water standards at the
water treatment plant. Since these water quality analyses are about 30 miles
downstream of the water treatment plant intake, the water supply for the City
of Craig is most likely even better than shown in this analysis.

The reconrnended stream cl assificati on for the Yampa Ri ver below Forti ficati on
Creek is Class II. The Class II designation means the stream is regarded as 3
good city water supply, supports a warm water fi shery, and can be used for
other recreational and agricultural purposes.

Fortification Creek is the cause of lowering the stream classification fro",
Class I. The creek is Class IV due to heavy agricultural use and heavy silt
loads d~ring the spring each year.

- 32 -
