For the water quality analysis, the
station on the Yalllpa River near Maybell was selected for comparisons with
municipal drinking water standards. It is located about 30 miles west of
Craig. The records examined were from October 1980 to September 1983.
Samples were collected monthly and subjected to a full range of chemical
tests. These data are sUl1l1larized on Table IV.6. The table shows the range of
concentrations for each water quality parameter and its standar1, as
recol1l1lended by the Colorado West Area Council of Government.

TABLE IV.6
WATER QUALITY FOR THE YAMPA RIVER NEAR MAYBELL, COLORADO
FOR WATER YEARS 1981-1983

============================================================================

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

PARAl~ETER

RAN G E
Low Hi gh

STANDARD

Specific Conductance (mi cromhos I 102 1010 None
pH (Uni ts I 7.7 8.7 5.0 - 9.0
Hardness (mg/ll 56 290 None
Al kal i nity (m3/1) 54 190 None
Sodi um (mg/ll 6.9 78 270
Sulfate (mg/l) 21 290 250
Chloride (mg/l) 2.0 30 250
Dissolved Solids (mg/l) 91 579 500
Nitrogen (Nitrate + Nitritel [mg/l as N] 0 6.8 10
Arseni c (ug/l) 0 2 10
Bari um (ug/ll 0 100 1000
Cadmium {ug/ll 0 0 10
Chromium (ug/ll 0 10 50
Copper (ug/ll 2 19 1000
Iron (ug/ll 0 100 300
Lead (ug/l) 0 13 50
~anganese (ug/l) 8 150 50
Mercury (ug/l) 0 .1 2
Selenium (ug/ll 0 7 10
Silver (ug/ll 0 10 50
Zinc (ug/l) 4 40 5000

- 31 -
