The first <br />storage right. appropriated on September 10, 1955 is for 206 acre-feet and is absolute. The <br />second storage right. appropriated on October 19, 1971 is for 1,000 acre-feet and is conditional <br />upon the beneficial use of the water stored. Records of the Colorado State Engineer's Oftice, <br />shO\vn in Appendix AS. are limited between water years 1987 and 1996, but indicate annual <br />diversions prior to expansion of the reseryoir are between I 16 and 186 acre-feet. <br /> <br />A summary of water rights. Colorado State Engineer Diversion records. and water rights rulings <br />are found in Appendix A. <br /> <br />Project Description and Alternatins <br /> <br />The Barton Porter Reservoir expansion project has two primary purposes. The tirst is to provide <br />a means for Bill and Barton Porter to increase their ability to provide irrigation ,vater for Porter <br />S&C. thereby increasing crop production and enhancing the profitability of the ranching <br />operation. The second purpose is to maintain the land-use of the area surrounding Barton Porter <br />Reser..-oir for ranching and agricultural use.
