Barton Porter Hcsen"oir Expansion

Introduction

Bill and Barton Porter operate the Barton Porter Reservoir for the benefit of Porter Seed and
Cattle, Inc. (Porter S&C), located in Garfield County, by providing gravity flow irrigation water.
The reservoir receives water from the Sykes and Alvord Ditch (also known as the Sykes and
Alford Ditch) and the Roderick Ditch. which divert water from the Garfield Creek drainage
basin. The reservoir also receives water from the West Three Mile Ditch. which diverts water
from the Three :V1ile Creek drainage basin. The reservoir is an off-channel saddle reservoir.
created by two earthen dams in a saddle bet\vcen the South Canyon Creek and Alkali Creek
drainage basins. The reservoir expansion will increase the existing reservoir capacity of
206 acre-feet to 1200 acre-feet (pending confinuation on project completion). allowing Bill and
Barton Porter to store more of their adjudicated \vater rights as well as increase crop and
liveslock production for Porter S&C.

Project Sponsor

Bill Porter and Barton Porter are the project sponsors and are private residents of Colorado.
They are sponsoring this project for the bene lit of their company. Porter S&C.

Project Service Area and Facilities

The Barton Porter Reservoir. once the expansion project is complete. will provide irrigation
water to approximately I] 00 acres in Garlield County. Irrigated acreage \vithin the service area
is primarily used for cattle ranching and to grow hay and small grains. The hay crop and small
grains are used as cattle feed. or are sold. A map sho\\ing the location of the n.:ser\"oir along
with the service area is included in Appendix 0 of this report.

The sources of water for the Barton Poner Reservoir are the Sykes and Alvord Ditch, the
Roderick Ditch. and the West Three r-,.'lile Ditch. Bill and Barton Porter O\\TI a total of five
absolute water rights for these ditches as illustrated in Table I:
