Laboratory
analyses show that both wells exceed the recommend~d limit of
500 mg. per liter. Hardness has been found to be 40 to 50
grains hardness.

Selenium exists in the water near the maximum allowable limit
of 0.01 mg/l. Sulfites and nitrates each have been found to
exceed the maximum recommended 1 imi ts of 250 mg/l and
45 mg/l respectively.

The water used from these wells is of poor quality and may
create health problems as well as various other problems
relating to normal use of the water for municipal use. The
chemical properties and analysis of the water is described
and discussed in detail in Appendix C Sanitary Survey Report.

2. DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Although some improvements were made to the distribution system
in Hudson in 1964, there are yet mains and appurtenances vlhich
are undersized and/or in need of replacement. Distribution lines
of one inch and two inch plastic and steel exist in many areas
as well as some old cast iron mains. These water mains are not
capable of providing good water service to all consumers.

Additionally, increased capacities in mains for fire protection
are required in many locations. Looping of water mains in many
areas of the Town would assist in providing supplemental supply
for normal use as well as for fire protection. Exhibit I-A
shows the existing distribution system.

There are no master meters on the well heads or individual
meters within the Town to allow recording of usage, output of
the wells, or the establishment of records to determine operation
and maintenance needs throughout the system. The Town does not
own any major maintenance equipment for maintaining or installing
new facilities. The Town normally contracts for these services

II - 3
