The
concentrations of total dissolved solids, sulfates and nitrates
exceed the recommended limits of the Colorado Department of Health
standards.

The two wells serving Hudson are located approximately one mile
from the Town. Discharge piping from the wells is connected directly
to the distribution system. The only treatment occurring is chlor-
ination of the water at the well head. Parts of the existing dis-
tribution system are old and undersized and should be replaced.
There is a need for additional lines to loop the system in order
to eliminate many dead end lines and to provide for adequate domestic
flow and fire flow throughout the Town.

The existing storage for the Town consists of a 40,000-qallon
steel elevated storage tank constructed in 1916, and a 75,000-gallon
steel elevated storage tank constructed approximately 10 years ago.
The storage tanks are located on the east side of the TOIm. The tanks
are elevated in order to provide adequate pressure to the users. The
storage is inadequate to meet the Town's needs for equalizing, emer-
gency, and fire storage requirements.

C. \-lATER SYSTEtl mPROVEMEtns

Hater system improvements have been proposed for the major components
of the system, incl uding storage, distribution, treatment and supply.

Proposed storage improvements include a new 700,000-gallon ground
storage tank located near the existing tanks. Booster pumps need
to be installed near the tank to pump into the elevated storage and
to the system.

Proposed improvements to the distribution system include replacing the
small and deteriorated lines with minimum 6" water mains. Additional
valves, fire hydrants and appurtenances would be placed in the dis-
tribution system to allow the system to be properly maintained and
operated and to provide fire flow throughout the Town. The new water
mains and looping of the system would eliminate the existing low
pressure problems and other system problems which are occurring.

PS - 2 of 4
