Design

Sizing Criteria

The following guidelines axe suggested in sizing and in the location

of the facilities proposed in this project:
1. The diversion structure should be made oJ: reinforced concrete

designed to accommodate a 400 c.f.s. nood without overflow.
(See page 17 .) All concrete incorporated in this project
should achieve rnirdmum 3,000 p.s.i, 28 day compressivest.rength.
2. The diversion ditch ShOl11d be designed to accommodate 3.0

'ccf .s.and no more. A suggestion may be to size the dcwn-

- '-"'-' .--"".,......,-,.. . . --__.._ _ ~.- ",- :.~_.-'-- .".- -- --=---="'"T.""-OC-; <=.-__,~:--, ;--~... ...,.,..._. ~ .. ----. f''''~' -'-' :-'-~',.-u _'_~,-_ u_~ _. _ _. .

hill bank of the canal to overflow into the stream at flo~JS

over 3.0 cS.s. The diversion canal inJ.et should be designed

so it may be closed if necessary.

3. The clarifier and sedimentation pond should be sized to store

at least three days I supply of residential and cornrnerciaJ. water.

The pond should be located above the 100 year flood line, A

minimum of three feet freeboard Should be allowed to the top

of the pond embankment froln high water :line. The overflovJ

Should be designed to accOlmnodate3.0 c .Ls . without difficulty.

The pond should be designed to allOli complete drainage for

periodic cleaning of Sludge from the bottom. The outlet works

should be designed to draw water a minimum distance of one foot

from the bottom to allow room for sludge bllildup. Outlet should

dra~J loJater from a min:i:nu:n of .five feet below the surface to

avoid floating debris and freeze hazards. The outlet should be

screened with a device which can be easily removed and cleaned.
