"-

,r~,

TASK NO.: 4
RFP CROSS-REFERENCE:
Step 1, Item (3)

STAFF MEMBERS RESPONSIBLE:
Dam Evaluation Specialist
System Operation Studies Specialist

TASK TITLE:

Estimate of Water Available for Storage in New Project Reservoir.

RATIONALE:

Hydrologic and operating analyses of the existing Surface Creek basin are
required to determine the gross water supplies available for diversion and
storage at the Cactus Park Reservoir site, or more suitable alternative
reservoir site, utilizing the GMWCD conditional water rights under the
predicted future conditions of operation in the Surface Creek basin.

METHODOLOGY:

1. Perform documents research and map studies at a reconnaissance level to
identify potential reservoir sites as suitable alternatives to the proposed
Cactus Park Reservoir si te.

2. Determine preliminary potential limiting capacity at each site, and select
those sites, if any, which appear adequate for further investigations.

3. Perform limited field investigations of selected sites by observation of
topography and surficial geology.

Ii. Select most feasible reservoir site or sites based on results of Steps 1 through
3 above and the decreed points of diversion of the GMWCD conditional direct
diversion rights.

5. Modify the basin simulation model developed in Sub-Task 2.12 and operate to
determine the gross inflows storable at the selected reservoir site(s).

PRODUCTS:

1. Location and potential capacities of potential storage reservoir sites in the
Surface Creek basin.

2. Tabulation of gross inflow available for storage at the selected reservoir
site(s) under the predicted future operation of the Surface Creek basin.

11-10

Revised 9/23/ I 985
