Page 2

PROBLEM
The current water problem is twofold, quality and
quantity. The method of collection allows a high turbidity
into the system which is not removed and, therefore, a high
turbidity and BOD count exists in the water delivered to
the residents. The State Health Department has condemned
the water as unsafe for both BOD and turbidity.
In addition, the limited flows from Clear Creek and
the overgrowth of vegetation at the springs create s~ortage
of water. Residents are restricted from watering their
gardens and lawns.
In the winter, a portion of the collection line
freezes because of the shallow depths of this line and the
method of operation that must be carried out by the town. One
resident at the upper storage facility has a commitment from
the town to supply water. To supply this resident requires
bu~lding up a pressure in the line which is shallow and
thereby making the line conducive to freezing.

CURRENT STATUS
In June, 19?6, the town council requested help from
the State of Colorado, Division of Local Affairs. At that
time, Local Affairs could not assist water supply projects and
the Town applied to Colorado Water Conservation Board for
Grant assistance of a feasibility study.

2

I
